The SCO Secretary General and his delegation laid flowers at the memorial complex for Soviet and Mongolian servicemen

On May 6, 2022, on the eve of the 77th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War, SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming together with a delegation of the Secretariat, heads of diplomatic missions and diplomats of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs China and other Chinese government bodies, Russian compatriots living in China also visited the memorial complex of Soviet and Mongolian servicemen who died during the liberation of Northeast China, located in Zhangbei County, Hebei Province, the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization reports.

All delegations laid wreaths and fresh flowers at the memorial, honored the memory of the fallen with a minute of silence.

Initially, a monument was erected in Zhangbei County in 1945 at the burial site of Soviet and Mongolian soldiers who died during the liberation of the county from the Japanese invaders. However, during the Civil War in China in 1945-1949. it was destroyed. After the proclamation of the People’s Republic of China, it was decided to erect a majestic memorial, the opening of which took place on October 20, 1957.

The names of 69 Soviet and 56 Mongolian servicemen are immortalized on the central stele of the memorial.
