
On October 16, 2025, a roundtable of Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries on global governance was held in Beijing. It was organized by the China Foreign Language Publication and Distribution Office, the SCO Secretariat, and the China Institute of International Studies.
The event was attended by over 100 representatives of government agencies, diplomatic missions, think tanks, universities, media outlets, businesses, and youth organizations from SCO countries.
SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev, Director of the Foreign Language Literature Publication and Distribution Office of the People’s Republic of China Chang Bo, Special Representative of the Chinese Government for Eurasian Affairs Sun Linjiang, and other high-ranking officials addressed the opening ceremony.
In his address, the Secretary-General noted the significance of the Global Governance Initiative, proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the “SCO Plus” meeting in Tianjin on September 1, emphasizing its alignment with the principles of the “Shanghai Spirit” and the efforts of SCO member states to build a representative, democratic, equitable, and multipolar world order.
The Secretary-General reported on the SCO’s development achievements over 24 years of work, in particular, the results of the Tianjin Summit. The initiatives and proposals of the heads of state of the Organization’s member states were noted, and the Secretariat’s determined commitment to facilitating their practical implementation and supporting the Kyrgyz chairmanship was emphasized.
