SCO Secretary General speaks at the Indian Council of World Affairs

On February 6, 2025, in New Delhi, during an official visit to India, the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Nurlan Yermekbayev, at the invitation of the host country, spoke at the Indian Council of World Affairs on the topic: “SCO and India: Strengthening Regional Synergy of Cooperation in Eurasia”.

The Secretary General spoke about the multifaceted activities of the SCO, emphasizing India’s significant contribution to its development, and highlighted the existing potential for the progressive expansion of cooperation within the Organization.

Nurlan Yermekbayev noted that the SCO provides a reliable platform for promoting regional and global agendas, such as ensuring security, economic development, and cultural and humanitarian interaction.

One Land, One Family, One Future initiative put forward by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the concept of creating a community of common destiny for mankind promoted by the Chinese side chairing the SCO and a number of other significant ideas of the Organization’s member states aimed at maintaining multipolarity, regional and global solidarity, mutual respect for interests to achieve common prosperity were noted.

They discussed the work being done to improve mechanisms for countering security challenges and threats, current areas of trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation within the Organization, and the development of international cooperation of the SCO as a whole.

In conclusion, the Secretary General answered questions from guests of the event concerning regional and international issues.
