
On December 8, 2025, Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with Eduardus Stiprais, the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Secretariat in Beijing.
The EU representative praised the SCO’s efforts to develop multifaceted cooperation. He briefed the SCO on its interactions with countries in the region in implementing the new EU strategy, emphasizing the EU member states’ intention to fully support the efforts of Central Asian states to create conditions for genuine good-neighborliness and mutual support.
The SCO Secretary-General outlined the Organization’s activities, emphasizing that the Tianjin Declaration of the Council of Heads of State reaffirmed the role of Central Asia as the core of the SCO. He also noted that the Organization supports the efforts of member states, including those in Central Asia, aimed at ensuring peace, security, and stability. Efforts also extend to developing cooperation in the trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres within their respective countries and in the region as a whole.
At the request of his interlocutor, N. Yermekbayev also provided information on the main results of the Tianjin Summit and ongoing work to improve the Organization.
An agreement was reached to maintain working contacts between the executive bodies of the SCO and the EU.
