XVII session of the SCO Forum

On May 26, 2022, the XVII meeting of the SCO Forum was held in the format of a videoconference under the chairmanship of the Russian side, the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization reports. The event is organized by the Center for East Asian Studies and the SCO MGIMO (U) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. The meeting was attended by about 40 experts and political scientists from India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.

The opening ceremony was attended by SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation I.V. Morgulov.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation outlined Moscow’s approaches to the tasks of developing the SCO against the background of the situation in the world. Special attention was paid to practical measures to develop cooperation in the fields of politics, security, economy and humanitarian ties.

“In his speech, Morgulov emphasized Russia’s approaches to the priority tasks of improving the SCO in the context of the deep transformation of global politics and the economy,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “Special attention is paid to practical measures for the development of SCO cooperation in the fields of politics, security, economy and humanitarian ties, strengthening the role of the association in the interests of forming a more just and democratic multipolar world order”.

In the substantive plan, three thematic blocks were discussed: the intensification of interaction between the SCO states in the field of international security, problems of economic cooperation and the development of humanitarian direction.

Within the framework of the Forum, scientists expressed many useful ideas and considerations that will be taken into account in the work of the SCO statutory bodies.

The SCO Forum was established in 2006 as a consulting and expert mechanism that unites the research and political circles of the Organization’s member states.
