According to Russian foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, to resolve the problems of armed conflicts, international terrorism and the pandemic, it is necessary to unite the efforts of the world community.

He said this at the 75th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, which this year, due to the pandemic, is partially held in a remote format.

“Today, armed conflicts continue to rage in various regions of the world, which are aggravated by international terrorism, drug and cybercrime, and climate change. In addition, this list was supplemented by another formidable challenge – the coronavirus pandemic, which provoked serious crisis phenomena in the socio-economic and other spheres,” Lavrov said.

The Russian side considers the Secretary-General’s call for a global ceasefire in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic very relevant. This initiative was unanimously supported by the CSTO member States.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to respond to these and many other global problems from year to year in the context of the growing disunity of the world community,” the Russian foreign Minister said.

It is worth noting that due to the coronavirus, delegations from many countries were unable to come to New York. At the same time, permanent representatives of States to the UN who came to the meeting in person pass temperature control at the entrance, and in the hall they sit at a safe distance in masks and gloves.

Thanks to the new format of speeches, a record number of country leaders will take part in the debate – 119 heads of state and 54 heads of government.\
