The Chinese newspapers “People’s Daily” and CHINA DAILY, the Pakistani edition of the Daily Islamabad Post and a number of other media published an article by the SCO Secretary General Vladimir Norov dedicated to the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace celebrated on April 24.

The Secretary General spoke about the role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in promoting the principles of multilateral diplomacy at the regional level.

According to him, it is necessary to re-evaluate the concept of “multilateralism” in line with the formation of flexible non-integration models of trans-regional partnership, which allow to consolidate the efforts of states in order to solve the most pressing problems related to ensuring global and regional security and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

In the context of the upcoming 20th anniversary of the SCO, Norov informed about the Organization’s approaches to global governance, the settlement of regional conflicts, countering non-traditional challenges and threats, the development of the international trade system and humanitarian cooperation.

He also noted the urgency of promoting a system of horizontal partnerships in the Eurasian space between the leading regional associations, including the SCO, CIS, CSTO, ASEAN and LAS, in the interests of synergy and synchronization of their multidisciplinary efforts.

The importance of working together to combine co-directed integration initiatives with an emphasis on the involvement of new participating countries in multilateral trade, financial, infrastructure, cultural and humanitarian projects was emphasized.
