On March 30-31, 2026, a delegation from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Secretariat, led by Deputy Secretary-General Batyr Tursunov, visited Qingdao, Shandong Province, China, to participate in the “Export to China — Choosing the SCO” event, organized by the China-SCO Pilot Zone for Regional Economic and Trade Cooperation.

The event was attended by representatives of SCO member states, regional leaders, government officials, and leading business associations of the Organization. The program included a meeting between the leadership of Shandong Province and the heads of delegations, as well as a procurement session for Chinese and foreign enterprises.

 

On Participation in the “Export to China – Choosing the SCO” Event

In his welcoming address to the delegates, Wen Nuan, Deputy Governor of Shandong Province, emphasized that developing trade and economic ties is a key factor in the sustainable development and strengthening of cooperation within the SCO region. It was noted that Shandong Province prioritizes supporting imports, implementing logistics programs, and creating conditions for goods from SCO countries to enter the Chinese market.

Practical measures proposed include developing direct procurement channels, expanding the visibility of domestic goods through digital platforms, and leveraging the capabilities of the Qingdao Pilot Zone as a platform for business partnerships.

In his speech, Deputy Secretary-General Batyr Tursunov noted the importance of the Pilot Zone in implementing the SCO Development Strategy to 2035. Particular attention was paid to the SCO Choice initiative as a mechanism for promoting high-quality products, simplifying trade procedures, and building sustainable supply chains.

It was emphasized that, given global economic challenges, the active involvement of regions in cooperation processes is even more crucial. In this regard, the SCO will continue to provide comprehensive support to initiatives aimed at export diversification and strengthening the Organization’s economic foundation.

Following the event, it was noted that harnessing the potential of the Pilot Zone in Qingdao will contribute to stability and prosperity in the SCO region.
