The presentation of the activities of the Organization for Development and Cooperation of the Global Energy Association (GEICO) was held on December 23 with the participation of SCO Deputy Secretary General Sherali Jonon, representatives of the diplomatic corps of 14 countries of the SCO “family” (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Afghanistan, Iran, Uzbekistan), GEIDCO management headed by Deputy Secretary General Chen Zhijian, Vice President of China Green Development Group Liu Jun, Vice-President of the company State Grid International Development Ltd. Dong Yang, the representative of the company China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Ltd. Wang Bo.

The purpose of the presentation was to get acquainted with the activities of GEIDCO, as well as to discuss the prospects for establishing mutually beneficial cooperation and productive working contacts. In addition, the program of the event included a visit to the exhibition hall and the global operations and analytical center.

He also focused on the need to improve energy efficiency in the context of combating global climate change and noted the importance of using alternative energy sources in the economic development of the SCO member states. He also stressed the relevance of the project “Asian Energy Interconnection” in the framework of the restoration of a unified energy system in the countries of Central Asia.

He spoke about the projects being implemented in the region-TUTA (power transmission lines from Turkmenistan through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan to Pakistan) and CASA-1000 (electricity supply from Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan).

GEIDCO Deputy Secretary General Chen Zhijiang expressed readiness to expand productive cooperation with the SCO countries, invited relevant departments responsible for energy to join the Global Energy Interconnection platform in order to jointly promote cooperation in this area with a focus on “clean energy” and the implementation of mutually beneficial cross-border projects in the field of energy supply.

He also informed about the advantages of the Asian Energy Interconnection project promoted by the organization.

According to Zhao Changchun, Head of the GEIDCO Development Department, the Global Energy Interconnection platform is aimed at promoting a green development strategy that can create the necessary conditions for the successful implementation of the Global Energy Interconnection concept.

Representatives of China Green Development Group, State Grid International Development Ltd. and China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Ltd. informed about the production and research capabilities of these enterprises, expressing interest in establishing business contacts with partners from the SCO countries.
