Kopylov called Victory Day a holy holiday for all countries and peoples.

Victory Day is a holy holiday for all countries and peoples who liberated the world from fascism, Oleg Kopylov, Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

The traditional action “Immortal Regiment” was held on the territory of the Russian Embassy in Beijing on Saturday on the occasion of the celebration of the 81st anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. The participants of the commemorative march were citizens of Russia, CIS countries, descendants of Soviet and Chinese soldiers who took part in battles in different parts of the continent.

“This is a holy holiday for all of us, for those countries and peoples who liberated the world from fascism,” Kopylov said.

He said that his grandfather, having gone to Vienna, was subsequently transferred to China to participate in the operation against the Kwantung Army.

“This is a holiday that should unite, you can see that hundreds of people have gathered here, and our Chinese friends are actively supporting us,” Kopylov said.

He added that many employees of the multinational staff of the SCO secretariat also came to the march of the “Immortal Regiment” at the Russian Embassy in Beijing.

“Memory lives, it must live, because it is the foundation of our lives and the future, the foundation of peace,” said the SCO Deputy Secretary General.
