SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming held a number of meetings on April 1

On April 1, 2022, the SCO Secretariat hosted a number of meetings of SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the People’s Republic of China Khek Kaimili, with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the People’s Republic of China Mohammed Al-Badri, as well as with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to the People’s Republic of China Irith Ben-Abba Vitali, the SCO Secretariat reports.

During the meeting with Khek Kamili, the prospects of Cambodia’s interaction with the SCO were analyzed, taking into account the opportunities provided by the SCO Dialogue Partners Institute (the country has such a status). There was a common understanding of the expediency of intensifying contacts between the Secretariat of the Organization and the Embassy of Cambodia in China.

Khek Kamili emphasized the relevance of the application of the Kingdom of Cambodia for observer status at the SCO and the desire for a more meaningful dialogue with the Organization.

During the conversation with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the People’s Republic of China, Mohammed Al-Badri, issues of implementing the Decision of the Council of Heads of SCO Member States on granting Egypt the status of a SCO dialogue partner, as well as possible areas of interaction within the Organization were discussed. Mutual readiness for a permanent dialogue between the SCO Secretariat and the Egyptian Embassy in China was emphasized.

Mohammed al-Badri confirmed his country’s interest in developing multilateral cooperation with the SCO, in particular in the field of security, as well as on economic, cultural and humanitarian issues.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel exchanged views on topical issues of the regional and international agenda, the role of multilateral diplomacy in the search for comprehensive responses to modern challenges and threats was emphasized.

Zhang Ming briefly informed about the fundamental principles of the SCO, its goals, structure and main areas of work.

Irit Ben-Abba Vitali stressed Israel’s interest in further acquaintance with the SCO and maintaining a constant dialogue with its Secretariat.
