The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has a huge potential, and the members of the association need even greater integration, said the Honorary Chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

“I am sure that our union has a huge potential, the attractiveness of which is confirmed by the interests of other states in concluding trade agreements. Only in cooperation with reliable, proven partners and allies can we ensure the economic security and independence of our countries,” Nazarbayev said on May 21, 2021, at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, which is held in the format of a video conference.

He said that ” during its existence, the EEU has confirmed that, despite all the difficulties, the members of the union are just such partners.”

“Today, in these conditions, we need even greater integration, even greater mutual understanding, even more to meet each other,” Nazarbayev added.

Vladimir Putin is taking part in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, which is being held in the format of a video conference. Among the main topics of discussion are the fight against coronavirus, overcoming the consequences of the pandemic, as well as integration issues.

The member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), despite the coronavirus pandemic, were able to increase trade turnover in the first quarter of 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

“Despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, the trade turnover between the E member states increased by 17% in January-March of this year,” Putin said.

The member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) should take measures on the prices of socially important goods as quickly as it was with sugar, if necessary, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

He also noted that currently, against the background of unstable global market conditions, problems with sharp fluctuations in prices for socially important products are becoming more acute.

“We are grateful to our partners for supporting the Russian initiative to normalize the situation in this area, and we have concrete decisions on this issue. In particular, not so long ago, the Eurasian Economic Commission adopted specific decisions aimed at consolidating the pricing policy of the EAEU states in the sugar market.

Just as quickly, we should take measures for other types of products, when it is required, ” Putin said.

At the end of April, the EAEU decided to grant a tariff benefit in the form of duty-free import of sugar in the period from May 15 to September 30, 2021.
